April Meeting & Pre-Meeting Workshop

Speaker:  Lieutenant Colonel Michael Kimball, U.S. Army (Click here for bio.)
Title: "Supporting our Veteran Workforce"


1. Discover definitions & concepts used by the Military that you will become familiar with. Like what is the difference between a Veteran and a Combat Veteran and their experiences? 
2. Find out the attributes and skill sets that all uniformed personnel share and how they translate to the workforce. 
3. Specific benefits of hiring a Veteran or working with Active Military will be discussed. (What can you expect as an employer?)
4. Discuss advantages hiring a Veteran or working with Active military and more importantly disadvantages of not hiring a Veteran or working with Active military.
5. What are these employees looking for in a company they may work for? You will hear what some of these examples are and how they will apply in your workplace. 

This program has been applied for SHRM and HRCI Recertification credits.  


Pre-Meeting Workshop

Speaker: Peter Caspari, Employer Outreach Director, DoD, Florida ESGR (Click here for bio.) 
Title: "Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve"

Objectives to be covered:

  • Review of latest USERRA-Understand the New Regulation key principles of USERRA.   
  • Overview of Shadow Day Experience – Offers HR Professionals a Day in the life of a Soldier/Airman. Takes place on a military base and walks them through what it’s like to be a member of the military.
  • Overview of Soldier of the Month-This is a great opportunity to help our area Veterans who are looking an employment opportunity. ESGR is partnering with HRPBC to connect local Vets with our membership professionals by highlighting a Veteran at our dinner meetings. Peter will share how our HR Professionals can support this effort. Learn how you can be a Hero’s hero!
  • Awards for Employers (Patriot, Seven Seals, Above and Beyond, Freedom) How supporting the ESGR can provide recognition to you as an employer and what it means to employees you’re looking to hire when you have these award designations.
  • Statement of Support-Employers of our Vets can be their life line to reintegrating back into civilian life. Peter will discuss how your company can be instrumental in this and make it known by offering your own “Statement of Support”.
    ESGR Support for Employer Marketing Opportunities- Being a supportive Employer of our Veterans also has it’s perks. Peter will discuss how the ESGR offers support to employers by providing them Marketing opportunities to Veterans.
