HRPBC November Dinner Event and Pre-Meeting Workshop - Boca Raton - November 19

Title: Employment Law Trends to Watch

Presenter: Melissa S. Zinkl, Esq.

Program Description: Few can quibble with the fact that 2015 has been a busy year for employment law. From historic pronouncements of the Supreme Court concerning fundamental and civil rights, to the Department of Labor's release of guidance to curb misclassification and proposed new regulations to update the Fair Labor Standards Act's "white collar" exemptions, to the General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board's warning that many employee handbooks and policies may be unlawful, it is difficult for employers to keep up with all the changes this year has brought. However, it is important for employers to recognize the trends and to implement changes as necessary to prepare their businesses for the future and to avoid liability in an era of ever-increasing regulation concerning the employer/employee relationship.

Program Description

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about the developing employment law trends over the past year.

  • Learn about proposed changes in the law that may impact your workplace.

  • Discuss how to address key changes in the law in your workplace.

The program has been submitted for HRCI Recertification Credit & SHRM credits.

Pre-Meeting Workshop

Title: What’s All the Fuss?
Presenter:  Kym Kurey, Vice President of Sales First Choice’s Vice President of Sales & Compliance

According to a recent survey, 69% of Human Resource professionals perform employment screening and background checks on new hires. Government and private sector studies indicate that as many as 25% of all resumes contain false or exaggerated information regarding their education verifications, employment verifications, criminal records, reference checks, and driving records. Employers want honest employees, and many will hire an applicant even with a criminal conviction. Applicants will often be denied employment for "non-disclosure" before they will be denied due to a conviction. HR Professionals need to be armed with the tools to Make informed decisions to select the best applicants for their organization. You can also learn how to improve efficiency of your screening process and avoid theft, fraud and inventory shrinkage.

Key Learning Objectives:
1) Learn why it’s important to conduct background screening and protect your organization
2) Learn where to begin
3) Learn why compliance is Really A Big Deal
