HRPBC September Dinner Event and Pre-Meeting Workshop - Boca Raton - September 17

Title: You Are Enough: Why You are such an important character in our story.
Presenter: Casey Casperson, President Top Dog Improv

Program Description: No matter the size of your company, it can become very easy to forget how powerful it is to have a person committed to work on your team to help you meet your mission.  As an improviser on stage, I only want to work with the best version of you.  I don’t want you to be another person because I have you.  Without you, I am less than.

In the office, we often make our teammates feel less than or not enough because we project our shortcomings on them instead of exploring what makes them enough for you.  In my presentation, I’ll offer some brief exercises you can do to make sure you are empathizing with your team so that you can make sure you are serving them the best way you know how. That’s right.  Your job as an HR Professional is to serve the needs of your team.  If they feel as though you have their best interests in mind, they will return the favor.  You will develop a reputation as a credible and approachable HR professional and an employee advocate.

The key to all of this assuring each individual that they are enough, and what they are thinking and feeling is valid.   This session will provide the following tools to help you align with your team:

1. Learn how to listen for “shiny” words in a conversation so you can focus on what your people are really talking about instead of reacting to what they want you to hear.
a. Recognize potential employee relations issues in a proactive manner and take proactive resolution approach as a result

2. Emotional Choice:  You have a choice when it comes to your emotional reactions.  What are the most important emotional states for you to be in when interacting with your team?  Regardless of their emotional state.

3. Talk because you think instead of the thinking before you talk.  Learn how to trust that the impulses in your mind are correct.  Improvisers succeed on stage because they talk while thinking.  They know that their emotional connection to the character on stage is enough.

4. Assist leaders in facilitating difficult interactions with employees and stakeholders and develop new partnerships in the process

The program has been submitted for HRCI Recertification Credit & SHRM credits.

Pre-Meeting Workshop

Title: Speak Like a Pro to Get the Buy-In You Need (How to give a presentation without passing out)
Presenter: Laurie Glover, Organizational Development and Business Development professional, QSTS, Inc.

Program Description: Statistics show that more people are afraid of speaking in public than they are of dying.  Are you?

The majority of us HATE speaking to groups.  Why?  It moves us out of our comfort zone, makes us take risks, and puts us on display.  We ‘re afraid of forgetting what we want to say, we’re afraid of stumbling, we’re afraid of looking stupid . . . we’re just afraid. Period.

The reality is that speaking confidently in front of various groups is one of the best ways to build your credibility in any organization.  It positions you as an expert in your field, gets you in front of a lot of people in a very short time, and opens the door to being recognized as the “go-to” HR consultant rather than simply the problem-solver for messy employee stuff.

Position Yourself as an Expert is an interactive 60-minute workshop that will help you become confident and more effective in developing and delivering professional presentations.  It identifies three critical steps to successful presentations:

-IDENTIFY YOUR AUDIENCE
-KNOW YOUR STUFF
-OVERCOME FEAR OF PUBLIC SPEAKING

You’ll learn some quick tips and techniques that you can take back to your organization immediately and start getting results. You can’t afford to miss this workshop.
