July Dinner Event & Pre-Meeting Workshop

Title: "Changing the Paradigms of Performance Management"
Speaker: Dr. Cathy Bush

Join us on July 17 at the West Palm Beach Embassy Suites where Dr. Cathy Bush will speak on "Changing the Paradigms of Performance Management"

Summary:  Although many processes in organizations have evolved in response to a wide range of dynamics, the performance management processes that are widely used in organizations across the world are based on old paradigms that are rarely ever challenged.  While most organizations have formal performance management processes, these processes are often insufficient in helping employees understand areas for improvement in a timely manner, which leads to demotivation and reduced productivity.  For most managers and employees, the formal review meetings are painful chores that must be endured, rather than valued conversations.  The effort to complete the performance management process (typically done on an annual basis) places too much emphasis on the bureaucracy of documentation, rather than providing employees and their managers with a great opportunity to collaborate and make improvements.  Comparable to a report card from school, most performance management systems are built as tools to facilitate the judgment of an employee, rather than tools to facilitate coaching.  These paradigms will be examined, along with others, during an interactive presentation that will provide the audience with several new ideas for improving the performance management process in their own organizations.

About our Speaker:  Dr. Cathy Bush holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Central Michigan University.  For the past three decades she has studied and invested in the development of leadership in individuals and groups as a professor, a researcher, a consultant, and an executive coach.  She has held several teaching and administrative positions at Northwood University, Keiser University and Marylhurst University since 2001, and currently teaches as an adjunct professor for the University of Central Florida. Her consulting experiences include working with a number of organizations in a wide variety of industries, providing workshops as well as consulting with leaders on several organizational issues such as team effectiveness, process improvement, employee retention, performance management systems, employee satisfaction assessment and feedback, employee assessment and selection, and change management. She is currently the principal consultant at Bush Consulting LLC, based in Central Florida.

Pre-Meeting Workshop

Title: Balancing Courage and Compassion: Infusing your work relationships with trust
Speaker: Jessica A. McCann, Ph.D.

Summary:  Trust isn't an innate trait you have or don't have. It is a learnable skill that you can intentionally develop. When you operate with high trust in your relationships, teams, and organizations, you will significantly outperform those who do not cultivate trust at the core of their culture. This session will explore a model of developing high trust and delve into a few of the specific trust behaviors that you can put to use in your own relationships.

About our Speaker: Jessica is a Client Partner with FranklinCovey in Southeast Florida and works with organizations and HR leaders to perform needs analyses and design solutions that address human behavior interventions to drive better productivity and results. Jessica has worked in performance improvement, sales leadership, and HR development for more than a decade in corporate enterprise, in higher education, and in management consulting.

Her passion for helping people find their purpose and passion in doing meaningful work led her to earn a Ph.D. in HR Development with specializations in Change Management and Organizational Development. As a scholar-practitioner, her research focuses on studying grit, perseverance, goal motivation, and the growth mindset.

When she's not consulting with organizations, developing online courses for nonprofit organizations, or writing white papers and articles, Jessica is traveling, reading, training for her 3rd half marathon, or catching up on Netflix with her boyfriend and dog.
