Community Relations
The community relations committee seeks to educate, promote, and represent the interests of community service and the SHRM Foundation and its activities to the chapter membership. This Committee promotes and organizes volunteer activities to benefit various organizations within Palm Beach County, thereby advancing the profession within the community.
During the first two quarters of 2009, the Community Relations Committee raised over $700 for the SHRM Foundation. The SHRM Foundation awards $170,000 annually in education and certification scholarships to professional and student SHRM members, and doctoral students. The SHRM Foundation publishes the Effective Practice Guidelines series, free to SHRM Members, to make research findings easily accessible to HR practitioners. The Foundation has also created a series of educational DVDs for SHRM chapter programming, staff trainings, and executive education sessions.
The Community Relations Committee also spearheads community-based initiatives.
- During the first quarter of 2009, HRPBC partnered with the Broward County Chapter at a networking event to benefit the Children’s Caring Cancer Society. HRPBC’s efforts raised $830 for the organization.
- In June, the Community Relations Committee collected over 100 donated business suits and other items to benefit Dress for Success.
- In September, HRPBC raised $1,222 for the Vietnam Veterans Local Chapter #25 at our networking event at the Blue Martini.
- And finishing out the year, the Community Relations Committee and various members of HRPBC volunteered to help Little Smiles charity with their annual toy drive during the month of December.
